Ross County Recipes

If you’re anything like me this time of year can be very stressful. You never know what to cook or how to cook it. Luckily, there are cookbooks for that! This year I will be getting my recipes from Rich Traditions Cookbook. This cookbook came right here from Chillicothe and Ross County, Ohio. You can purchase your very own for only $5.00 at the Ross – Chillicothe Visitor’s Bureau! It might even be the perfect gift for someone you know with the holiday’s right around the corner.

When preparing your dinner we all know for Thanksgiving the main dish is turkey! What about the sides? Let’s try a side using sweet potatoes! This seems to be an easy dish that everyone can enjoy. For this sweet potato casserole you will need these ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/3 cup of butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups cooked sweet potatoes, drained
  • 1/2 a cup of milk

Once you have your ingredients together it’s time to start cooking. Mix together sugar, eggs, salt, butter, vanilla until well blended. Add potatoes and milk last. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 baking dish. For that perfect taste you will want to add a topping! This recipe even includes that! Now to get your topping together grab these few ingredients:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter

Mix topping dry ingredients, and spread on top of the potatoes. Then melt the butter and pour on top. Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes at 350 degrees! How easy is that?! This side dish is guaranteed to be a hit at your Thanksgiving dinner this year!
