November 30, 2021 – The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as GivingTuesday, or the National Day of Giving. Many times you will see this on social media as #GivingTuesday. This philanthropic day was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. GivingTuesday.org states that “GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods and advocacy to support communities and causes.”
So on this day, look within the community and consider supporting causes that are important to you. As you consider organizations, please keep Ross County attractions in mind as most are non-profit organizations that rely on community support. Additionally, these organizations and their programming are part of what attracts visitors to Ross County, which in turn, generates revenue that supports many other sectors of the local economy.
Here’s a small list of possible organizations to consider this #GivingTuesday. By clicking on an image below you will be directed to that organization’s donation page.
Many of these organizations not only support tourism but also the arts in the community such as “Tecumseh!”, Majestic Theatre, and the Pump House Center for the Arts. While other organizations aim to preserve and protect history such as Adena Mansion & Gardens, the Ross County Heritage Center, and the Ohio History Connection. The Ohio History Connection not only owns the Adena Mansion & Gardens site, but is also the managing partner in the World Heritage nomination for the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks.
Many individuals find organizations that fit into their interests. So if these suggestions don’t meet your interests, you can find more listings on the What To Do page of the website. There are also some great community organizations that support a wide variety of causes locally such as the United Way of Ross County, Chillicothe Ross County Foundation, and Southern Ohio Survivors as well as many others that would welcome donations this #GivingTuesday.
