Daylight Saving Time has come to an end and there’s a slight chill in the air. You will also catch some Christmas music being played overhead while you shop. Yes, the holiday season is upon us and it’s time for holiday activities to get you in the seasonal spirit.
Holiday craft bazaars are in full swing with each Saturday in November averaging about two bazaars each week. This is a perfect opportunity to find some unique stocking stuffers or something special for someone on your shopping list. You will also find some tasty foods at many of the bazaars from chicken & noodle dinners to flavorful German food from Schmidt’s food truck.
Mark your calendars for these bazaars:
November 13: Altrusa Holiday Craft Bazaar & Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ
November 20: Bishop Flaget Christmas Bazaar & First Presbyterian Craft Show
November 27: Adena PTO Holiday Craft Bazaar, Bainbridge Christkindl Market, & Frankfort Shopping Trail
December 4: Zane Trace FTO Holiday Market & Craft Fair
A very popular, annual event is the Downtown Holiday Open House that takes place the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. This weekend is when the downtown Christmas tree is lit for the season, and Yoctangee Park is transformed with a holiday light display. Horse-drawn carriage rides are offered by Ivy’s Home & Garden, an ice skating rink from Mighty Children’s Museum will be setup in the park for the season, and the first visit from Santa Claus will be available during the Open House weekend at the Santa House. This year will be a little more special with celebration of Chillicothe’s designation as Best Hometown by Ohio Magazine. Ohio Magazine Editor and staff members will be part of the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 19th.
December brings along many seasonal activities, many are old favorites and some that are brand new this year. A few of the traditional event include Holidays at Adena where Adena Mansion & Gardens is transformed into a holiday wonderland with special holiday tours and special activities along with holiday performances at the historic Majestic Theatre. New this year includes the Chillicothe Christmas Church Walk, the Chillicothe Christmas Tour of Homes, and a A Mountain Holiday, a two-weekend event on Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre, home of the annual “Tecumseh!” Outdoor Drama featuring a lumberjack show.
