Christmas Eve Traditions by netmums.com

This week we’re doing something a little different for our blog. Upon researching for our next blog post, we came across this wonderful article providing ideas for new Christmas Eve Traditions from netmums.com. It seemed like the perfect blog topic for a post being scheduled on Thursday, December 24th.

Many of us may already celebrate Christmas Eve with some of these traditions; however, if you’re wanting to add a little more magic for the big day, check out some of the suggestions below. For the full article, check out the link above.

  1. Look up and see Santa fly by: Head out into the garden or yard and look up. You may just see the lights of Santa’s sleigh as he flies by.
  2. Sprinkle reindeer dust: Sprinkle little packets on the porch to light the way for Rudolph and his friends. Mix oats and glitter and put the mix in a small packet to give to the child. Have them sprinkle it outside. The oats might blow away by the morning (Rudolph has probably eaten them) but the glitter sparkles are still there.
  3. Christmas Snowflakes: This may be the only option for a white Christmas in Ross County this year. Gather around the table and make pretty paper snowflakes to hang from a string all around the house and create a mini-winter wonderland.
  4. Leave a sack of toys for other children: Ask the children to choose a few toys they no longer play with (but in good condition) and place them in a special sack for Santa to take away and deliver to children who might not get as many new toys for Christmas.
  5. Letter from Santa: After the kids have gone to bed write a letter from Santa. Perhaps thanking them for leaving out a drink and cookies or with a personal message from him.
  6. Twinkling walk: Once it’s dark, take a family walk around your local neighborhood to look at all the Christmas lights.
  7. Snuggle in front of a festive film: Gather the family and snuggle up in front of a DVD of  your favorite Christmas film. Bring out the hot chocolate, popcorn and Christmas cookies as snacks during the film.
  8. Christmas dinner for the birds: A great idea is to head outside to the hanging bird feeders in the yard and fill up the feeders so the birds will have their own Christmas dinner the next day.
  9. Gather pine cones: Tire out the little ones for a good night’s sleep by taking a walk. Gather pine cones along the way and use them to decorate the house.
  10. Food and drink for Santa: Keep Santa energized with milk and cookies. You can also include some carrots for Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer too.

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!
