If someone had told me a few months ago that I would be screaming at an alien, dodging dinosaurs, swatting at bubbles that weren’t really there, and trying to pet animals made entirely of light, I probably would have laughed.
Yet here I am, telling you about one of the most unique attractions I’ve experienced in a long time—and it’s right here in Chillicothe.

As someone who spends a lot of time promoting the amazing attractions throughout Ross County, I thought I knew what to expect when I visited the Hologram Zoo. I was wrong.
Very wrong.
The moment I stepped inside, I found myself completely immersed in another world. The holographic projections are so realistic that your brain quickly forgets you’re looking at advanced technology. Instead, you react exactly as if the animals, creatures, and environments are real.
At one point, I caught myself swatting bubbles away as they floated toward me. Moments later, I reached out to pet one of the animals before realizing there wasn’t actually anything there.
Then came the dinosaurs.
A dinosaur stretched its neck toward me, and I instinctively jumped backward. It felt so real that my first reaction wasn’t to admire the technology—it was self-preservation.
But nothing prepared me for the alien.
Without warning, it lunged in my direction. I not only jumped back, but I screamed at the top of my lungs. Loudly. The kind of scream that instantly tells everyone nearby you’ve completely forgotten you’re standing inside a hologram attraction.
Needless to say, my dignity may still be recovering.
What makes the experience so special is the level of interaction. This isn’t a museum exhibit where you simply stand and observe. The Holographic Zoo encourages guests to move, explore, react, and engage with the environment around them. Every visit becomes a little different depending on how you interact with the displays.
