October is a month full of beautiful colors, fall festivities, and Halloween thrills.
Ross County, nestled into the Appalachian foothills, offers a scenic skyline that pops with beautiful autumn colors as the season progresses. You can unwind along 220+ miles of trails as you immerse yourself into fall’s beauty within the five State Parks and National Park. If you prefer to see the views from the comfort of your vehicle, you will enjoy a relaxing drive along one of the Skyline Drive loops to see the beauty of the Paint Valley region in western Ross County. While exploring the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park you will be walking along the Native American mounds and earthworks that were created by this culture over 2,000 years ago. This ancient culture built these magnificent earthworks to serve for gatherings, celebrations, and many other milestone occasions.
While visiting for the fall beauty, enjoy some of the festivities taking place in Chillicothe and Ross County. Get tickets to see “The Passion of Dracula” on the Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheater stage where the annual, summer production of “Tecumseh!” Outdoor Drama takes place. The production is a limited run for the month of October. There will also be special exhibits and activities taking place at the other local historical sites in Ross County. A new, temporary exhibit at the Ross County Heritage Center will showcase 200 Years of Quilting & Needlework. This exhibit is open mid-October through the end of November. Additionally, Adena Mansion & Gardens will host the Brigade of the American Revolution with reenactments for two-days on October 30th and 31st.
Festivals
Ross County finishes out its festival season with the Chillicothe Halloween Festival taking place October 8th-10th in Yoctangee Park in downtown Chillicothe. While Bainbridge celebrates the season with the annual Fall Festival of Leaves October 15th-17th. Both festivals offer vendors, food, entertainment, and fun for the entire family.
October is the season for Halloween thrills! If you are looking to be scared, look no further, as you can find haunted trails in Ross County. Outbreak in the Hills offers a trail through the Haunted Forest where you will encounter costumed characters that provide the scares. Once you’ve completed the trail, check out the paintball zombie shootout that is offered as well. You can also visit The Last Carnival, Backwoodz Oddities hosts this annual trail that features indoor and outdoor thrills. The trail consists of over 5,000 square feet indoor scares and well over 100,000 square feet of outdoor maze and woods.
