The Ross County Historical Society presents their Spring Speaker Series.

Ohio Archaeology: A Fifteen Thousand Year Human Odyssey Featuring Brad Lepper, Manager of Archaeology and Natural History & Archaeology Curator, Ohio History Connection, Columbus. (Co-sponsored by the Ohio Humanities Council Speakers Bureau)

The story of Ohio’s people begins long before 1803 or even 1492. It begins with the first humans to truly discover America more than 15,000 years ago. These ancestors of today’s American Indians explored this New World and adapted to its varied environments. In the Ohio, they domesticated local plants and built networks of monumental earthworks, which became religious centers for over half the continent. In this presentation, Dr. Lepper reviews the evidence for Ohio’s American Indian cultures, from the mastodon hunters of the Ice Age to the farmers of corn, beans, and squash here when the first Europeans arrived in the land we now call Ohio.
