|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 8:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until July 26, 2017

Join a park ranger from Hopewell Culture National Historical Park for a guided paddle on Paint Creek!
Tours will be available on Wednesday’s, June 28, July 5, 12, 19, and 26.

Each tour begins at 8:00 am at Waters Edge Canoe Livery.  You must call the park and pre-register.

Float along the beautiful scenic Paint Creek while learning about the world famous American Indians that were building huge, geometric earthworks along the banks of the creek over 2000 years ago!

Travel in the footsteps of the Hopewell Culture as you discover these earthworks from the waters of Paint Creek.

You may bring your own boat or rent a kayak or canoe from the livery. From Waters Edge Canoe Livery boaters will be shuttled just north of Seip Earthworks to the shores of Paint Creek where the paddle begins.  The paddle is approximately 6 miles and will last approximately 3 hours ending at Copperas Mountain where the boaters will be shuttled back to Waters Edge Canoe Livery. Things to bring along: sack lunch, water, sunscreen and sun hat.  Experienced paddlers only. This tour is not for beginners. We strongly recommend visiting the park’s website for our safety guidelines and procedures for proper paddling: http://www.nps.gov/hocu/planyourvisit/canoe-and-kayak-ranger-guided-tours.htm
