First Ladies Roundtable at the Lucy House
September 21, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The niece of the only bachelor president is the subject of the fourth and final 2018 “First Ladies’ Roundtable” at the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center this Friday. At 2pm September 21st, David Tillis will speak on how Harriet Lane served as hostess for the 1857-1861 term of James Buchanan. Lane had an exciting life and was so popular both during and after her official tenure that she is easily comparable to Dolley Madison of an earlier generation.
The Lucy Hayes Heritage Center is at 90 West Sixth Street in Chillicothe, Ohio. The home is open for tours 1-4pm, Fridays and Saturdays, April through September, or by appointment.
The First Ladies’ Roundtable is a recent feature at the Lucy House.
Various speakers will encourage discussion on “First Ladies,” chiefly the wives of U.S. Presidents or Ohio governors (although other women served as hostesses as well) from 2-4pm on the third Friday of each month. Those who may wish to present future programs are invited to contact the Friends of the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center. A library of information at the Lucy House regarding First Ladies is also available for research.
You may learn more about the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center on their Facebook page.
