Spring is just around the corner and Ross County is gearing up for another great tourism season. Many of our area attractions open for the season beginning in April but there are plenty of great events coming up before then.
St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is primarily celebrated as recognition of the Irish and Irish-American culture. The holiday has been celebrated on the North American continent since the late 18th century. (Wikipedia)
So as you’re out celebrating the holiday, make sure to check out The Scioto Society’s fundraiser, “Cead Mile Failte” and some of the downtown pubs offering specials and entertainment. For some family St. Patrick’s Day entertainment, check out the local branches of the public library.
Easter
For Easter activities, one of the biggest events is the annual Chillicothe Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt in Yoctangee Park. The Jaycees always does a fantastic job with this event and is one of the biggest Easter events in Chillicothe. There’s also the opportunity for kids to meet the Easter Bunny as he hops from one Ross County community to another at the branches of the public library.
Springtime Events
You know it’s spring when the annual Southern Ohio Home & Garden Show takes place! The event takes place the first weekend of April and there will be plenty of vendors and DIY demonstrations to get you ready to tackle your spring projects.
Adena Mansion & Gardens has several events in April that are great for children. The first event is “Birds at Adena Mansion”, a chance to learn about birds while making a bird house to take home with them. Also taking place in April at Adena is a candle making event and a Spring hike.
Another popular event this time of the year is the Ross County Sportsman & Wildlife Club’s annual Mushroom Hunt. This event offers a scavenger hunt for kids and will award plaques for the biggest mushroom and the most mushrooms found.
There’s plenty of entertainment in April with the Earth Gathering Festival, a Night at the Sugar Shack, and this year McGuffey Lane will be performing at the Paxton Theatre.
This is just a quick highlight of events that are coming up this spring in Ross County. Make sure to bookmark our Calendar of Events page as we add new events daily.
