Where’s the Line? Twisting Time
February 29, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeHopewell Culture National Historical Park is excited to introduce a new archeological series, “Where’s the Line?”. Join our rangers and archeologists in this series of programs as we investigate all the blurry lines that exist in archaeology that lead to important questions which encourage us to keep learning more about the past.
Join us on Leap Day, February 29th, at 1:00 to investigate how time is defined! When archaeologists examine the past, they create divisions between cultural periods. However, they are making decisions based on incomplete information, many people of the past did not leave us writing, photographs, or calendars!
Timelines twist and turn and overlap! Discover the blurry lines in time by comparing your own timeline to prehistoric timelines. Examine material culture changes and determine where you would draw the line between different styles of projectile points or even cell phones. Find out your own sphere of influence and how it has changed by looking at the material culture in your own life. Be an archaeologist for a day and help us make sense of some material culture left behind by different peoples and cultures!
This program is not just for kids. We encourage curious visitors of all ages to learn with us! Hopewell Culture National Historical Park’s, Mound City Group visitor center is located at 16062 State Route 104, Chillicothe, Ohio, 45601.
