Stand Up for Survivors of Sexual Assault
April 30, 2016 @ 10:00 am
FreeStand up for the survivors of sexual assault by joining Adena Health System’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program and the Southern Ohio Sexual Assault Survivor Advocates (SOSA) by taking part in the “It’s On Us, Southern Ohio” march and vigil.
“It’s On Us” is a national movement aimed at shifting the way we think and talk about sexual assault with the goal of empowering, engaging, and educating others to do something.
The Sexual Assault Awareness Month event will start at Yoctangee Park and continue to the Ross County Courthouse to deliver 153 teal balloons. Each balloon will represent a sexual assault reported to the Adena Emergency Department in 2015.
“The balloons will be secured to the Courthouse to remind every survivor that they are not alone,” said Heather Welshimer, SOSA coordinator. “We will also be holding a moment of solace for everyone who has been affected by this horrible crime.”
Participants are also encouraged to support the “It’s On Us” movement by taking the pledge to keep everyone safe from sexual assault and promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but be a part of the solution.
