Spring Speakers Series 2023 RCHS – General Ulysses S. Grant
April 19, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
General Ulysses S. Grant Returns to Cover the War Years— Fort Donelson through the Chattanooga Campaign and promotion to Commanding General.
Featuring renowned living historian & educator Dr. Curtis Fields, Jr., PhD, Memphis, Tennessee. Wednesday, April 19, 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Curtis Fields, Jr., the preeminent portrayer of Ulysses S. Grant, has been our guest speaker twice before—at our 2019 Spring Speakers Series when his presentation covered Grant’s early life growing up in Georgetown, Ohio, as a West Point cadet, young officer in the Mexican War, and life on lonely military outposts on America’s western frontier. He returned on Grant’s 200th birthday last year to cover Grant’s desperate years trying to support his family after leaving the army in the 1850s. This time he will chronicle Grant’s unexpected successful return to the army at the beginning of the Civil War and follow him through the Fort Donelson, Shiloh and Vicksburg campaigns, the raising of the Confederate siege of Chattanooga, and promotion to overall Union commander. Please join us as Dr. Fields continues Grant’s story through his convincing, true-to-life presentation of Grant as he actually appeared and acted.
