Featuring Annette Jefferson, member of “We’ve Known Rivers”, an African American living history group, Columbus
Dr. Jefferson is a three-time-graduate of the Ohio State University, and has spent more than 25 years developing stirring portrayals of African American women. Recognized as a Humanities Scholar, Dr. Jefferson is part of the Artist-in-Schools program of the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. Her “I Be Harriet Tubman” is an interactive learning experience detailing the life of one of America’s most remarkable heroines. Through dialect, costume, and stories, Jefferson brings the diminutive Tubman of Underground Railroad fame to life. Hear why she was “Moses” to slaves, “General Tubman” to John Brown, and reviled by slaveholders seeking her capture. Learn of Tubman’s Civil War service as a Union scout, nurse and spy. Experience Tubman’s courageous exploits, bittersweet victories and final battles of one woman who gave so much to so many.
