Recording artist Mark Thacker will be the featured musician at the Foothill Folk Society’s first Singer-Songwriter Showcase.

Thacker, a Chillicothe native, will be performing his own songs, including the acclaimed local tune, “Over on Paint Street,” which he recorded with Jeff McDonald on the 2012 CD, “Over on Paint Street.” Thacker plays acoustic guitars, tenor banjo and harmonica on the CD. Thacker’s music can best be described as Americana, as he draws much of his inspiration from from our Appalachian region’s folk and country roots. Thacker also draws on his personal experiences and observations in small-town Chillicothe — experiences that anyone who has ever lived in any small town can relate to. Thacker has been a featured performer at the Foothill Folk Society’s annual OU-C concerts and has been a long-standing member of the Goosetown Astonishers, a dixieland jazz band that has been performing every Thursday evening at the Crosskeys Tavern in downtown Chillicothe for decades. According to their Facebook page, the Astonishers are “the oldest continuously playing house band in the United States.”
