What was the favorite vegetable of Thomas Worthington, sixth governor of Ohio? Do
you know what people ate from their gardens at the time Ohio became a state?
The Ross County Historical Society will present a Junior Member Program entitled
Planting Worthington’s Gardens in partnership with Adena Mansion and Gardens.
The program will take place rain or shine from 9:30 to 12:30 on Wednesday, June
12th, 2024 at Adena Mansions and Gardens Visitors Center, 847 Adena Road
Chillicothe, OH. This RCHS Jr Members program is free for Jr Members and $10 for
non-members.
Come help plant Thomas Worthington’s vegetable garden at Adena Mansion and
Gardens. Learn about the gardens and agricultural landscape of Adena, and what was
common practice of farmers and gardeners around the time of Ohio Statehood. Come
enjoy a little work and a little play, refreshments and take home a little piece of
agriculture from the early 1800s.
There is limited space for this popular program, to register please call or leave a
message at The Ross County Historical Society: 740-772-1936 or
[email protected]
Come get your hands dirty, your shoes muddy (an extra pair of boots or shoes might
be a good idea), and experience the living history of Planting Worthington’s Gardens.
