The Chillicothe Kiwanis Club is seeking nominations for the Kiwanis 2016 Ohio Statehood Day Achievement Award.  Nominees should be for those who best represents the “SPIRIT OF OHIO” and who have made a difference in the lives of Ross County residents.

The Award will be presented on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Ohio Statehood Day Breakfast to be held at Trinity United Methodist Church.   The Ross County Ministerial Association and the Chillicothe Kiwanis Club co-sponsor the Annual Prayer Breakfast to commemorate the founding and the beginning of the State of Ohio in Chillicothe in 1803. This will be the 50^th Ohio Statehood Celebration held in Chillicothe to celebrate Ohio’s 213^th Anniversary.

Kiwanis 2016 Ohio Statehood Day Achievement Award committee will consider all factors including, but not limited to, the nominee’s contributions to society, recognition of the nominee in his/her field of endeavor and overall accomplishments. The Constitution of the State of Ohio was drafted in Chillicothe in 1802, approved by Congress and Ohio was admitted to Statehood.  The governing officials were assembled and after being sworn into office, began administering the affairs of the secular government on March 1, 1803.  The opening session began with a prayer by a pioneer minister Rev. James Finley.  This prayer asked for divine guidance in all deliberations and judgments of the secular authorities. 

The Statehood weekend activities present community and cultural programs. The anniversary speaks to the “now” as well as the past and the future and will bring a renewed dedication to the principles upon which our state was founded.
