Goosetown Walking Tour by Kevin Coleman
June 24, 2016 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
$10.00Be astonished by a Goosetown walking tour by Kevin Coleman – in one week, the afternoon of Friday June 24th, 2016.
Learn about many aspects of Chillicothe’s working class German neighborhood named after the residents’ floating livestock: Workers’ cottages with scherenschnitte attic vents, a Romanesque farmer’s castle…canal and railroad superhighways, Camp Bull and Camp Sherman, a carriage factory and an 1890s scandal-sheet newspaper…Worthington’s Addition and Franklinton Pike…Limestone Road, Wharf Street, Angle Alley, Camp Sherman Road…flower pots to state forests…and more!
The Ohio Department of Forestry will also provide a tour inside the Seip House – a local architect-designed post-Victorian 1895 town house…rising like a swan in Goosetown.
The walking tour from 3:30 to about 5:30 starts and ends at Springdale Garden Center; arrive at 3:00 for additional interpretation and special offers there. Tours are $10 at the door for adults – and half for children who will listen and learn! We’ll be on level sidewalks and a few alleys, crossing several streets and mainly staying on the shady side.
I have a practical limit of 20-25 on sidewalks and indoors, so please register with the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau at 740 / 702-7677 or [email protected].
If weather is inclement (a hard rain or worse, or 95+ degrees), I will have to reschedule with the Forestry Department, and I can notify anyone who has RSVP’ed.
