Friends of the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center Annual Meeting for 2023

June 24, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

1 to 3pm Saturday, June 24th, is the 2023 yearly assembly of the Friends of the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center.

The brief business meeting will cover a few annual items for members to vote on, followed by light refreshments – including “Lemonade Lucy’s” drink.

The World Heritage designation for the “Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks” is coming this fall, and it is expected to greatly increase local tourism. Melody Young, the director of the Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau, will speak on what that means for community in general and for the Lucy House at the annual meeting.

The event is free and the public is welcome.

Lucy Ware Webb was born in Chillicothe in 1831 in the wood frame house, now the “Lucy Hayes Heritage Center” at 90 West 6th Street. She married Rutherford B. Hayes in 1852, who went on to serve in the Civil War, and serve as governor of Ohio and president of the U.S. Lucy was the first college-educated president’s wife, and the first to be referred to as the “First Lady” during her husband’s term.
