The Hoggard Trail* in Ross County’s Buzzard’s Roost Preserve has both natural and historical scenery. Along with the native Spring Beauties, Trout Lilies, Wintergreen, and Pawpaw, are remnants of 200 years of human alterations: a public road, house ruins, mico-quarries, pine plantations, a graveyard…and daffodils, which do not originally plant themselves.
Join me from 2 to about 4pm most Saturdays in February and March of 2023,** for a walking tour of the last 300 million years of pre/history as spring flowers should be in full riot on the rugged terrain and abandoned farms atop sandstone hilltops and shale slopes.
It will be $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $15 for families (three or more family members with children). Pay “at the door” at the with cash or check. Park where you can and gather at the start of the Hoggard Trail at the gate to Buzzard’s Roost.
The practical limit on the tour is about 25 people as we walk to the Hoggard Cemetery and back. First come first served, and reservations are not required – but you can contact me to be at the top of the attendance list and so I can let you know if plans change. Dress for the weather and outdoor conditions on level to rolling earthen trails in woodland. And, your health is your responsibility! If it’s too rainy to go without an umbrella or too cold for a medium jacket, I will notify all who have made a reservation of cancellation.
