Chillicothe’s Grandview Cemetery – Patriot Grave Marking Tour
October 20 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
$5 – $15Before the weather gets any more (un)seasonable towards Veterans Day, I’ll chime in with a “Patriot Grave Marking” on Sunday, October 20th.
I’m offering my recurring walking tour of the geology, history, art, and architecture of Chillicothe’s Grandview Cemetery starting at noon, and ending in time to regroup for the DAR’s ceremony at Henry Hill’s grave at 2pm.
As a local historian and guide, I will interpret the family graveyard that was there before the cemetery, the funerary architecture and symbolism of all the monuments, the historic stone quarry at the rim, the history around the site, the geology of the location…and even what you see in the grand views.
The tour begins near the Renick stone walls (two stars on the attached map), and ends near the cell tower (near no. 4 on the map).
The tour for a maximum of about 25 people is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $15 for families (three to six family members including children). Pay “at the door” at with cash or check.
You can make reservations at [email protected], phone 740 / 775-4036, text 740 / 771-8574, or message from this Facebook page. If the weather is inclement, the tour will be rescheduled and those who have contacted me will be notified.
I usually try to offer the same tour near Veterans Day, though the weather tends to get iffy.
