Archaeology Day 2018
April 21, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
FreeDo you want to learn more about Ohio’s prehistoric artifacts, rocks, and fossils? The Ross County Historical Society — in conjunction with the Mound City Chapter of Archaeological Society of Ohio, and Hopewell Culture National Historical Park — will host its third annual Archaeology Day. Featured will be more than 20 exhibits of locally and regionally found prehistoric artifacts, geo-facts, fossils, minerals, rocks and geodes.
Brand new this year will be a display of 2-D and 3-D scannings of artifacts for the Central Ohio Archaeological Digitization Survey (COADS) project by Ball State archaeologist Kevin Nolan and a PowerPoint presentation by archaeologist JEB Bowen titled “Ancient Stone Artifacts in South-Central Ohio” with more than 40 artifact images (many found by members of the Mound City ASO Chapter) and at least 90 maps.
Want to know more about a particular item you may have found? Professional and amateur archaeologists will be on hand to answer questions and help identify objects from private collections.
Admission is free and open to the public and includes tours of the Ross County Historical Society’s permanent prehistoric cultures exhibit.
