Ross County Historical Society – Fairy Tale Program

This special interactive program invites visitors to explore the enchanting world of fairy
tales through crafts, storytelling, and an exciting look at children’s literature from our
Archive’s special collections. Highlights include:
A pop-up exhibit featuring rare and original editions of classic children’s books —
including early volumes from the Oz series.
Hands-on crafts and a chance for kids to help us create our very own Yellow Brick
(well, chalk) Road!
A special presentation at 2:00pm on the historical roots of fairy tales, with a spotlight
on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as America’s first fairy tale.
Storytime at 3:00pm led by a librarian from the Chillicothe & Ross County Public
Library, who will also be on hand with library books available for checkout.
To top it all off, families will meet beloved characters from The Wizard of Oz, including
Dorothy, Glinda the Good Witch, and The Wicked Witch of the West, all roaming the
museum to meet guests and share the magic of storytelling.
This program is free for current Junior Members, and just $10 for new participants. That
one-time fee includes access to all upcoming Junior Member programs for the next
year. It’s a great way for families to connect with literature, history, and imagination — all
under one roof!
