This year marks the 100th year anniversary of the historic Camp Sherman. Please join the city of Chillicothe, Ohio to celebrate the 4th of July while we commemorate the centennial anniversary with a week full of events.
The week’s featured events include WWI re-enactments and mock battles, WWI themed displays and films, tours of historic Camp Sherman buildings and locations, and more.
July 1st – 9th you can find Camp Sherman Displays and Exhibits at Hopewell Culture National Park, Ross County Historical Society and the Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library. Find more details and the hours at the Camp Sherman Days Website.
July 1st is the Run, Walk & Boom hosted by the Chillicothe Civic Theatre. Lace up your sneakers and don your best red, white, and blue! Come run or walk with Chillicothe Civic Theatre through historic downtown Chillicothe, Ohio’s first capital, and scenic Yoctangee Park on this Patriotic holiday weekend, and help support our home theatre project. Run or walk our 5K or enjoy the beautiful summer morning with the Sparkler Sprint 1-mile fun run/walk within the park. More details can be found on the Chillicothe Civic Theatre Website.
July 4th at 2:00 pm there will be a Camp Sherman Days Parade! Come back in the evening for One of the largest fireworks displays in central Ohio with plenty of viewing space in the park. Local vendors will have food, entertainment, and activities throughout the afternoon, with the fireworks beginning after dusk. Plus free parking!
July 4th Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama will be having free admission for veterans and a guest. for more information call the box office at 866-775-0700.
July 6th First Capital Rotary presents First Thursday! A special Camp Sherman act will be performed.
July 7th Join the VFW for a commemorative dinner from 4:30-7pm at the VFW Post. General Glenn was the first Commanding General of Camp Sherman. Reservation information coming soon.
July 8th Kiwanis presents a home cooked pancake breakfast in Yoctangee Park. Details TBA.
July 8th-9th Camp Sherman Joint Training Center will be hosting a Live History Encampment. Great War living history displays – authentic camp and tent displays, drill practice, and live fire demonstrations at the original Camp Sherman Rifle Range. Antique show and other period vendors.
