STATEHOOD ERA ARCHITECTURE

March 1, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

$7 – $15

A slide show of the earliest surviving buildings in Chillicothe and Ross County, an updated presentation by Kevin Coleman.

A week before Chillicothe celebrates Ohio’s birthday, see buildings remaining from the first two generations of local settlement, and learn about their construction, styling, use, alteration…and some recent losses. Learn about early log, timber-frame, half-timbering, brick, and stone construction…of houses, barns, and commercial buildings…some with keystone lintels, sunburst ornament, half-elliptical transoms, and other elements of the era’s Federal Style.

See photos of buildings of the First Capital and vicinity – from settlement starting in 1795, during the time of the territorial and state capital, and into the 1820s.
