Have fun at the “Lucy House” creating Valentines for veterans this Saturday.

From 1 to 3pm February 9th, craft supplies will be available for kids of all ages (including adults) to make cards that will be distributed at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center on February 14th.

Vintage and antique Valentine cards will be on display, possibly including selections from the collection of longtime Bainbridge resident June Gregg. Bonnie Grove will also display the craft of Scherenschnitte, the German art of paper cutting.

This second annual Valentines event at the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center at 90 West Sixth Street in Chillicothe is open to the public and will have refreshments.

Since Lucy Hayes often accompanied her husband Rutherford to his Civil War camps, she spent much time visiting and writing letters for soldiers. She should be present, being delighted that a group honoring her memory is helping veterans on Valentine’s Day.
