Extended use of these features indicates that the Hopewell Mound Group was the ceremonial center among all the earthworks in this area. Join a ranger-led tour and learn more about this significant ceremonial center! \nImportant Reminders:\nAll tours are free\, open to the public and do not require registration\nTours will last approximately 2 hours and will cover 2-3 miles of unpaved\, uneven terrain\nCome prepared with snacks and water\nThere is little to no shade on these tours\nBring a hat\, bug spray\, sunscreen\nWear sensible hiking shoes. Do you or someone you know own a pair of binoculars that is just collecting dust? \nWant to learn about a new hobby and contribute to the scientific research field? \nJoin us on Saturday\, February 17th at Hopewell Mound Group for Birdwatching 101! \nBirdwatching is a great way to get outside\, appreciate nature\, have fun and learn about our feathered friends! Join Ranger Hailey for an introduction to birdwatching talk at the Hopewell Mound Group picnic shelter followed by a 2-mile guided hike within the Hopewell Mound Group earthwork. \nDuring the guided hike\, you may also record the birds you see for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count citizen science project! The data you collect will help scientists learn and protect birds around the world! To learn more about the Great Backyard Bird Count\, visit www.birdcount.org \nIf you are not new to birdwatching but still want to join our hike and contribute to the bird count\, feel free to meet us after the introduction to birdwatching talk at 9:30am at the Hopewell Mound Group picnic shelter located at 4731 Sulphur Lick Road\, Chillicothe\, OH 45601. This project also allows parks to see the diversity of dragonflies in their waterways and is a great opportunity for anyone to learn about dragonflies\, other aquatic macroinvertebrates\, and aquatic ecology. \nNets\, containers\, and other collection materials will be provided. Make sure to bring water\, sunscreen\, and possibly a snack\, as well as waterproof boots or sandals if you plan to get in the water. We expect it to be a hot day\, so be prepared! \n
