SUMMARY:Tree & Forest Literacy Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:TREE ID & FOREST LITERACY Field Trips all across Ohio$25/person\nWe are offering roughly two dozen forest literacy hikes all across Ohio\, led by premier Ohio naturalists and conservationists\, all of whom are passionate about sharing their craft and willing to volunteer their time to help you on your sylvan journey. Their goal is to transform your perception of nature as a “wall of green” into a community of distinct tree species that will one day become your familiar and cherished friends. If you are like most people\, achieving such mastery requires having a mentor. Our Tree Elders will give you certainty when you are in doubt\, humor when you are feeling overwhelmed\, and motivation when your own will is flagging.\n\nTickets

SUMMARY:Summer Sings- Recognizing Nature's Choir by Sight & Sound
DESCRIPTION:As summer wanes\, so do the songs of the birds and frogs. By late August\, our soundscape is replaced by the virtuosos of nature’s choir – the crickets\, katydids and cicadas. Skilled in the arts of percussion and rhythm\, these insects are capable of both high populations and impressive volume.\nCourse will be limited to 16 participants and each registrant will receive personal attention. Participants will learn how and why crickets\, katydids\, and cicadas make music\, and tips on how to identify species by both sight and song. You will be taught the life cycles of our summer singers\, and their ecological relationships with humans\, plants\, and predators. You will also learn how climate change is actively shifting our late summer singers’ range maps. Throughout the course\, we will take the time to cherish these beautiful\, secretive musicians as well as the natural habitats that support them.\nAugust 16th – 18th\, 2024\nHeld at the Highlands Nature Sanctuary\nCourse Leader Lisa Rainsong\, assisted by Wendy Partridge\n$250/person\nOptional but encouraged:$50/night for a room shared of the same gender;$85/night private roomcontact Seth at 937-365-1935 for lodging\nPlease note: The course does not include meals. All lodges are equipped with fully equipped kitchens and dining facilities. Participants are asked to bring their own food supplies.
