Yoctangee Park Walking Tours, May 2023 – Feasting on Park History
May 26, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
With school out and Yoctangee Park a busy place for the summer, join Kevin Coleman for several planned walking tour of some of its history…starting off as an accent to the Feast of the Flowering Moon.
Meet at the small gazebo in Mountain Man encampment to walk past and learn about the sulphur well under it, the eagles on the bandstand, the park lake and its outlet through a stone arch, the throwaway glass bottles under the park entrance, the industries that overlooked the former river channel, the famous baseball game at diamond number one, the flooded cannons, the story of Memorial Hall & Armory and its monuments, and hints of the Pump House’s watery history.
Two times during the Feast: 2 to 4pm Friday, May 26th, and 12 noon -2pm Saturday, May 28th. (Then consider my tours of Grandview Cemetery the next two days!)
The practical limit on the tour during the festival is about 15-20 people. $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $15 for families (three to six family members including children). Pay “at the door” at the with cash or check.
You can make reservations at ihs@horizonview.net, phone 740 / 775-4036, text 740 / 771-8574, or message from this Facebook page. If the weather is inclement, the tour will be cancelled and those who have contacted me will be notified of future planned tours.
