What is the Magic of Christmas?

As a child, I believed!!!!

I believed in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I believed baby Jesus was born in a manger and that at midnight on Christmas Eve, the animals could talk (thanks to a children’s show called “The Night the Animals Talked” from 1970).

Christmas was always my favorite holiday for several reasons. My parents would make it special every year (who am I kidding, it was ALL my Mom!!) We would put up the tree, dad hung the lights and it was up to me and my brother to decorate it with some help from mom. And for some unknown reason, she loved icicles hanging off all the limbs. We always watched, A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, The Christmas Story and all the animated cartoons like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, The Grinch and The Little Drummer Boy.

I was always in awe of the lights, well actually, I still am today. I used to think, “how does Santa deliver toys all over the world in one night?” but I was told he was magical and he was able to make his rounds.

As a child, I remember going to bed very early on Christmas Eve. I was so afraid that Santa would pass by because I was still awake. I even heard his sleigh bells as he passed over the house on a cold, clear winter’s night. Santa was pure magic and I was a believer.

As I get older and looking back over my childhood, Santa Claus was a symbol of the magic of the season and the joy of giving. And the birth of Christ, was the gift of pure magic for the world. For He would save us all if only we believe.

The magic of Christmas is within each of our hearts and could be something different for everyone. So during this season, find the magic and always BELIEVE!!
