Mountain Heritage Fall Festival

This weekend is the Annual Mountain Heritage Fall Festival at Tar Hollow State Park! This is a fun event for the whole family with a variety of activities. Stay the whole weekend at the Ross Hollow Campground so you don’t miss any of the fun.

The event will kick off Friday, September 16th at 6:00 pm with a Corn Hole Tournament. Meet at the Ross Hollow Campground parking lot. The tournament will be for Adult Campers only. Prizes will be awarded. Then at 7:00 pm come down for the “Fun Bunch Cloggers” to enjoy some wholesome family entertainment with audience participation! Bring your favorite camping chair to enjoy the show! Stick around for some homemade caramel apples.

Saturdays events will last all day from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. There will be cross cut saw demonstrations held throughout the day. There will be a variety of vendors bringing you everything from corn husk dolls to homemade soaps to homemade Amish goods (Pies, Chicken and Noodles, Candy, Etc.) There will also be 1840’s Frontiersmen Flint Knapping and a Mountain man Encampment where you can try your hand at hatchet throwing! At the Sycamore Shelter bring the kids over to try their hand at creating some old fashioned and fun folk art!

Some of the main events on Saturday September 17th will include

  • 10:00 am – Horse Shoe Pitching Contest
  • 11:00 am – Pie Baking Contest for Adult and Youth
  • 11:30 am – Beans and Cornbread prepared by Edna Yoder
  • 12:00 pm – Black Bear Presentation
  • 2:00 pm –  Kids games at the Big Shelter House
  • 4:00 pm – Black Powder Shoot
  • 5:00 pm – Cross-Cut Saw Competition
  • 6:00 pm – Tar Hollow Friends Group Chinese Auction
  • 6:30 pm – Pork Sandwich Dinner with Sides at the Big Shelter House $2.00 donation requested. Please bring your own drink, and enjoy the live Bluegrass music
  • 8:00 pm – Square Dancing

The festival will wrap up on Sunday morning at 11:00 am with a Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest! The winner of the contest will win a free night of camping. There will also be prizes awarded to kids.
