Lucy was born in the small frame home on August 28, 1831. Lucy was a kind woman, with great moral courage. She was the very first “First Lady” to be called so by the press. Lucy discouraged the use of alcohol in the White House which gave her the nickname “Lemonade Lucy”.

To celebrate and honor the life of Lucy Hayes the Friends of Lucy Board would like to invite you to the Lucy House on August 27th, 2016.
