The Paleoindian Discovery of America

June 18, 2015 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Robert L. Harness Lecture Series. Hopewell Culture National Historical Park is pleased to host the summer archeological lecture series.

The great French archaeologist Francois Bordes wrote that the pivotal significance of the discovery of the Americas would not be matched in human history “until man lands on a hospitable planet belonging to another star.” Join Brad Lepper, Curator of Archaeology for the Ohio History Connection, for a discussion of what we think we know about the Paleoindian discovery of America. When did people first come to this New World? Where did they come from? Were they responsible for killing off the Ice Age megafauna? What evidence do we have in Ohio for these earliest Americans? If you’re interested in where the story of Ohio’s Hopewell mounds really begins, join us for this look back at the true cultural foundations of the indigenous peoples of this hemisphere.
