“The Haunts of Downtown” Tour 2021
October 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm$10.00 – $20.00
Join Kevin Coleman for a visit to the third-floor 1874 meeting hall of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, with a delicious finish at Old Capitol Brewing…and possibly more, on Sunday, October 24th, 2021.
If September’s “Ghost Walk” was not enough for you or you missed it, I’m offering a dusk tour of another curious place with spookiness. At 63 North Paint Street, above Bernie & Max stained glass, is the lodge of a nineteenth-century fraternal group featured in the 2014 Ghost Walk.
The lodge room, overview of Paint Street, wardrobe, and even fourth floor sleeping rooms are on the tour. They were part of the 1874 Nipgen Block, with alterations maybe in the 1890s and 1950s.
We will end with the microcrafting of Old Capitol Brewing just up Paint Street – where I will discuss the Adena mound formerly on the site and entertain questions about spooky spaces downtown, while you can imbibe unique brews and have a late dinner or snack from the Crabby Girl food truck.
Included is a brief walking tour on Paint and maybe Second streets – and maybe another site or two – to highlight the architecture and a little of the paranormality of the downtown.
Bring your discerning tastes, curiosity, flashlights…and ghost spray.
The tour is limited to about 25 participants, and reservations are encouraged. It will be $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $20 for families (three or more family members including children). Pay “at the door” with cash or check. Shopping and food is on your own.
The tour starts 6pm Sunday, October 24th, 2021 at a site to be determined on Paint or Second Streets.
Most of the tour will be indoors with some long steep stairs (with some dustiness), and on level sidewalks and street crossings.
