Spring Awakening

April 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

$5.00 – $10.00

Welcome Spring with special events throughout the day as life returns to the gardens and grounds of Thomas Worthington’s Adena Mansion & Gardens. A family friendly nature walk; performances by area musicians; the Talking Petals Project; and children’s craft lesson are all included in the activities offered at the annual Spring Awakening.

Festivities begin with a bird and nature walk at 10:00am. Take a spring hike around the Adena grounds to learn about the flora and fauna on display at this time of year. Also, identify the carious bird species at Adena.

Matt Duddy, a Pennsylvania grower and narcissus aficionado will give a fascinating lecture about the history of the daffodil at 2:00pm in the Visitor’s Center classroom and will be immediately followed by a nature walk.

Musical performances will take place throughout the day at the Education Center. Performances include the Prussia Valley Dulcimers at 1:00pm, Sheri Dean at 2:00pm, and Stephanie Stanley at 3:00pm.

The Talking Petals Project art cart will be on display at the Education Center from 11:00am – 3:30pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to build their own “tussie mussie,” or coded Victorian flower bouquet, to send to a friend or loved one using their cellular device.

In keeping with the spirit of spring children can join local artist, Skip Hathaway in the Tenant House from noon – 3:00pm.

Maps of Adena’s marked trails will be available and all of the hiking trails will be open. Visitors are welcome to tour the gardens and picnic on the grounds, or in the shelter, by the Education Center.

All event activities are included with admission: Adults $10, Seniors $9, Children 6 and up $5, free for OHC, AMGS members and children under 5.
