RCHS Statehood Day Open House

March 3, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Featured will be three exhibits on Camp Sherman and World War I, including one that focuses on the camp’s creation and role in training soldiers for the war, another on the African American soldier’s experience at the camp, and finally an exhibit that focuses on uniforms and equipment of local soldiers and soldiers from outside the area who were trained at Camp Sherman.  There will also be a special one-day exhibit of rare Ohio statehood documents from the historical society’s archives and the return of an extensive display of early American military firearms from private collections.  In addition, the event will offer another opportunity to see the magnificent marble statue of Ohio’s 31st Governor, William Allen, acquired from National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol.  All other regular museum exhibits will also be open, and The Silver Strings dulcimer ensemble will perform traditional music throughout the afternoon.
