FreeThe Girls at Home: Parlor Harmonies of the Civil War Era, Featuring the singing group Lafferty Pike of South Charlestown, Ohio.
During the mid-1800s, American music was most often homemade. Composers catered to amateur musicians,p providing a wealth of songs that typified the sentimental romanticism and humor of the era. Our ancestors often enjoyed such music performed at informal concerts in the homes of family and friends. In the spirit of these “parlor concerts,” join us as the Arendt sisters of the group “Lafferty Pike”, present a program of popular songs from the Civil War generations, accompanying themselves with harp, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. They will highlight lesser-known theatrical pieces, hymns, ballads, and patriotic songs of the “girls at home” on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line.
