RCHS 2015 Children’s Program

July 29, 2015 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

$10.00

The program, titled “Working on the Ohio and Erie Canal,” will allow children to experience what life was like during Ohio’s canal era of the early 19th century. Participants will discover how the canal was built and who built it. They will learn the skills of a canal boat captain, a canal boat builder, and a teamster who drove the horses and mules that pulled the boats along the canal. They will tour the new canal exhibit in the museum, make canal related craft items to take home, and participate in popular outdoor children’s games from the period. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is required. To register, or for more information, call 740-772-1936. The registration deadline is July 27. Outdoor activities will be moved indoors in case of rain.

Admission includes a year’s membership to the historical society’s Junior Member Program. Registration is free for current junior members.
