Primitive Skills Potluck

March 11, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This will be the first monthly Primitive Skills Potluck event at Fruitdale Farm!

Earth skills expert, Fern Truitt, will be leading a hands-on workshop on Coal Burning. Using this technique, we will use fire to form containers and utensils out of wood. Such containers can be used to cook in, eat out of, or for storage. Primitive people used this skill to make everything from spoons to dugout canoes, and Fern will cover the collection and processing of the materials needed for such projects.

The workshop will begin at 1pm (please arrive around 10 minutes earlier). Space is limited to 15 participants, so please RSVP on this event page. Fern is offering this first workshop for free! Any donations would be appreciated.

This event will take place outside, so dress for the weather. It may be muddy, so bring appropriate footwear (and maybe extra shoes to change into afterwards). Also, please bring a sharp, fixed-blade knife (3-5 inch blade). If you have a wood file, please bring it as well (optional).

This is a pot-luck event so please bring something to share. We will eat around 5pm. Folks are welcome to hang out afterwards!

Kids and pets welcome!
