Hopewell Culture National Historical Park celebrates National Junior Ranger Day. Hopewell Culture NHP invites families to help kick off National Park Week by celebrating National Junior Ranger day. This year’s National Park Week theme is Parks 101. Park staff and volunteers will introduce kids of all ages to the National Park Service and the Hopewell culture while they work towards becoming official Junior Rangers.
10 a.m. – Atlatl 101– Build your own spear and atlatl. Spear throwing demonstrations to follow. For ages 8 and up. Supplies provided for children. Adults 18 and over can purchase atlatl kits in the park bookstore. Class size limited to 20. Pre-registration required by Friday, April 14. Call the park to sign up: 740-774-1126.
10 a.m. – Get Moving 101 with Walk with a Doc – Get your body moving with the Walk with a Doc Program. Join Dr. Jennifer Davis from Adena Health System along the 1.0 mile shaded nature trail at Mound City. The walk will take you around the perimeter of the earthwork and along a stretch of the Scioto River. Walk with a Doc is a national program that encourages healthy physical activity in people of all ages. This is the first in a series of walks that will take place at Mound City on the 3rd Saturday of the month, April –November.
10 a.m. -2 p.m. – Junior Ranger 101 Drop-in Stations: Atlatl demonstrations, Hopewell 101 and Birding 101. No pre-registration required. Check in at the visitor center desk to receive your activity page.
Pack a picnic lunch and join us for this family fun day in the park! The Mound City Group Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The grounds are open dawn until dusk. There are no entrance fees to the park. Pets are welcome on leash.
