Junction Forever! Community Information Hour
April 23, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeEnjoy a 45 minute presentation on the world significance of Ross County’s ancient earthworks (the densest concentration in the entire world!), and the development timeline for turning newly acquired Junction Earthworks into a public archaeological park and nature preserve having regional acclaim.
Junction Earthworks, a Native American earthworks site on the banks of Paint Creek on the south side of Chillicothe, was saved from the auction block last March by a small coalition of non-profits. The intense public fund raising campaign that immediately preceded the auction –literally just days before – went down in history as one of Ohio’s most successful grass-roots campaigns ever conducted on behalf of land conservation. Now Junction faces its second big challenge – funding the development and annual maintenance of the park without the aid of tax dollars.
Junction’s Future. Learn from Coalition representatives why they are determined to succeed, why community involvement and support is such a critical component of the park’s success, and what local residents can anticipate in the way of visitor services at Junction. This short presentation is specially designed for Ross County citizens, interested residents in the adjoining counties, and anyone interested in putting Ross County on the map as the world capital of ancient earthen monuments.
Chillicothe Country Club & Food Service. Chillicothe Country has been an historic and elegant feature of Chillicothe. Snacks will be provided, and a cash bar will be open offering a variety of drinks.
