Junction Earthworks Park Grand Opening

After a dramatic save at the auction block in 2014, and two years of land planning, healing, and restoration. The Arc of Appalachia invites you to join them for Junction’s Grand Opening!

12:45 – 1:00 Live Music by Steve Free
1:00 – 1:30 Grand Opening Ceremony
1:30 – 2:30 Junior Archeologist – Junction Expedition! Young explorers who participate in all nine stations, one in each of Junction’s nine earthworks, will receive a special award.
1:30 – 2:30 On-site Archeologist & Historians will be interpreting Junction’s earthworks to the visiting public.

Children’s Activities are Sponsored by Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. They include: Throwing ancient atlatls, Exotic Materials Mapping, Deer Bone Tool Activity, Match fur & artifacts with animal it came from, Copper Medallion Making, Sunflower Seed Planting, Artifact I.D. Activity.

Learn from Archaeologists & Historians on Site: Singularity of the Quatrefoil Mound, Burial Mounds & Geometric Enclosures, Connections to Early Hopewell Culture

Presenters:  Jarrod Burks, Archaeologist, Bruce Lombardo Heartland Earthworks Conservancy, Aaron Rourke Heartland Earthworks Conservancy.

From this day forward Junction’s Hiking Trails will be open to the public from 9:00 am – sunset, free of charge.
