Grandview Cemetery Walking Tour II, CHILLICOTHE – June 2020
June 6 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
An ENCORE walking tour of Grandview Cemetery’s funerary architecture, history, and natural aspects
If you couldn’t join me for my tour May 25th, here’s an encore on a Saturday. With the lack of Memorial Day ceremonies in Chillicothe’s scenic landmark burial ground, join me for my guided tour of it – with a nod to those buried there – 2pm to about 3:30pm this Saturday, June 6th, 2020.
Local historian and guide Kevin Coleman will speak on the graveyard that was there before the cemetery, the funerary architecture and symbolism in the monuments, the historic quarry at the rim, the history around the site, the geology of the location, and even what you see in the grand views.
Starting at the Renick stone wall, I will use my outdoor voice (and maybe a megaphone) so everyone can hear me as we stay safe in the fresh air and sunshine. It will be $7 for adults, $5 for students, and $15 for families. Pay “at the door,” and this is limited to about 30 attendees.
Reservations are not needed, but you can learn more on this Facebook page. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, 740 / 775-4036, or message from this Facebook page. If the weather is inclement or otherwise cancelled, the tour will rescheduled and those who have contacted me or marked “going” or “maybe going” on Facebook will be notified.
The tour begins near the Renick stone walls (two stars on the attached map), ends near the cell tower (near 4 on the map)…and can be extended to the gazebo / bandstand (no. 6 on the map).
$7 ADULTS, $5 STUDENTS, $15 FAMILIES
