Chillicothe has a rich history of African American influence in the community. From the settling of the Northwest Territory to the Underground Railroad, Ohio is well known for its involvement in the fight for freedom for African Americans. Join Beverly Gray, local historian, as she speaks on the history of the Black Community in Chillicothe and the crucial role they have played in our history.

Beverly Gray is a Chillicothe local whose devotion to history and education has had a tremendous impact on the community. After retiring as an educator for many year, Beverly continues her passion for history by volunteering in numerous capacities. She is a volunteer and education specialist at Adena Mansion and Gardens, as well as a co-founder of the David Nikens Heritage Center in Chillicothe and has been heavily involved with the Friends of Freedom/Ohio Underground Railroad Association, serving as a regional coordinator. She is also a member of the African-American Council for the Ohio Historical Association and sits on the board at Monticello.
